What to wear in Public

Of course visitors will have to comply with local laws and customs, such as no alcohol and compulsory head covering for women in public, in accordance with Sharia (Islamic law).

Iran is safe for female travelers. Iranian women dress fashionably, and the level of respect on the streets could be considered high even by Western standards. However, as a woman visiting Iran, you are required to wear a headscarf that covers your head when in public. Headscarves are skimpy, colorful, and barely attached in Tehran, but in regional areas more conservative coverings are the norm. Almost everything you think know about Iran is the product of western media propaganda. In Iran, no woman is required to wear a burka, Iranians are not terrorist, nobody has nuclear weapons in the basement and the Islamic Republic doesn’t mean Islamic State.

In short, Iran is a wonderful place for all to visit, whether you’re interested in food, culture, history, shopping, religion, architecture or politics!
